Across the UK, artists and cultural organisations stand ready and willing to work with schools and youth groups to plan and deliver engaging, fun and effective creative and cultural learning experiences for children and young people. These opportunities are more important now than ever, as they have been denied for so long through the pandemic.

When schools use this map to commission local cultural partners they also strengthen the local economy, highlight a variety of career paths to students and strengthen the cultural ecology of a place.

Head of Steam – Darlington Railway Museum tells the story of the Stockton and Darlington Railway (1825), the railway industry in Darlington and the railways in the North East of England. We are housed in a Victorian railway station with many original features such as booking office, footbridge, waiting room and newspaper kiosk, providing an immersive and inspiring environment.

We are at a working station (North Road Darlington) which provides sustainable transport for school parties and other visitors.

Groundwork South And North Tyneside took over the management of Jarrow Hall museum in 2016, and have since welcomed over 65,000 visitors and immersed thousands of school children in the world of Bede and Anglo-Saxon Northumbria.

In 2021 we were awarded the Sandford award, quality assurance for heritage education. Throughout the pandemic we have worked to create excellent online resources and outreach opportunities for schools.

We have also been successfully secured highly competitive funding from Heritage Lottery and the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund; created classrooms for learners with learning difficulties and disabilities and forged new relationships with institutions across the world.

National Theatre

The National Theatre Primary Programme works with schools both in London and across the UK, offering pupils and teachers enriching opportunities to experience theatre both as audience members and theatre makers, with a focus on creative learning across the whole primary curriculum.

This approach, using drama and theatre as a tool for learning across the curriculum, allows pupils with a range of learning styles and abilities to succeed and to enjoy learning.

National Youth Theatre is a pioneering youth arts charity which has nurtured the talent of hundreds of thousands of young creative people over the past 66 years. It has an active creative network of over 15,000 young people UK-wide and regularly produces critically acclaimed work on screen, on leading stages and at iconic sites at home and abroad.

In 2022 the charity will launch its 10th anniversary NYT REP Company, an award-winning free alternative to formal training, continue its work in non-mainstream schools through its national Inclusive Practice Collective and continue to support and nurture 5,000 young creative people through its short courses and long-term employment programmes. The Seagull is a successful not for profit community arts venue serving one of the most deprived communities in the Eastern Region.

We operate a broad range of activities for young people including:

    Two Youth Theatre groups catering for all ages
    A specialist drama group for those with additional needs
    A weekly group for children from families who experience addiction
    Monthly drama and music workshops lead by local professionals.
    A weekly “girls group” for those who suffer with low self esteem and issues around self harm and bullying
    An annual schools project where we work with local primary schools to create a new drama piece working in collaboration with professional writers and creatives, culminating in professional performances at our venue.

TCR Hub is a community charity based in Barnard Castle. On site we have a professional recording studio, Dance room, Drama/performance space, a workshop and a computer lab (called the Greenhouse). All set in beautiful surroundings. We also have accommodation for up to 33 people in modern dormitory style rooms.

TVMS has served the Tees Valley for over fifty years. Initially a purely peripatetic instrumental tuition service, we have extended our provision to include teacher training, school curriculum support and delivery, consultancy for all aspects of music education, including music technology, and instrument and equipment hire.

Now one of the 122 National Music Education Hub Lead Partners, we are the first port of call for all Tees music needs.

TVMS provides high quality music opportunities for children and young people across our four partner authorities of Stockton-on-Tees, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland.

We believe that every child should have access to a breadth of opportunities regardless of circumstance or background. We offer music tuition, support and events in a broad range of styles and genres. All of our pupils receive free membership of TVMS ensembles and choirs, ranging from beginner level to advanced bands and orchestras in each area and county-wide

Head of Steam

Head of Steam – Darlington Railway Museum tells the story of the Stockton and Darlington Railway (1825), the railway industry in Darlington and the railways in the North East of England. We are housed in a Victorian railway station with many original features such as booking office, footbridge, waiting room and newspaper kiosk, providing an immersive and inspiring environment.

We are at a working station (North Road Darlington) which provides sustainable transport for school parties and other visitors.

We have an award winning schools programme, having gained the Sandford Award for Heritage Education for the second time earlier this year.

Into Film is the UK’s leading charity for film in education. We support educators to unlock the power of film to deliver transformative learning outcomes for children and young people aged 5-19 in class, extra-curricular settings and in cinemas.

Jarrow Hall

Groundwork South And North Tyneside took over the management of Jarrow Hall museum in 2016, and have since welcomed over 65,000 visitors and immersed thousands of school children in the world of Bede and Anglo-Saxon Northumbria.

In 2021 we were awarded the Sandford award, quality assurance for heritage education. Throughout the pandemic we have worked to create excellent online resources and outreach opportunities for schools.

We have also been successfully secured highly competitive funding from Heritage Lottery and the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund; created classrooms for learners with learning difficulties and disabilities and forged new relationships with institutions across the world.

National Theatre

The National Theatre Primary Programme works with schools both in London and across the UK, offering pupils and teachers enriching opportunities to experience theatre both as audience members and theatre makers, with a focus on creative learning across the whole primary curriculum.

National Youth Theatre

National Youth Theatre is a pioneering youth arts charity which has nurtured the talent of hundreds of thousands of young creative people over the past 66 years. Royal Opera House Bridge works to connect children and young people with great art and culture. The Seagull

The Seagull is a successful not for profit community arts venue serving one of the most deprived communities in the Eastern Region.

We operate a broad range of activities for young people including:

    Two Youth Theatre groups catering for all ages
    A specialist drama group for those with additional needs
    A weekly group for children from families who experience addiction
    Monthly drama and music workshops lead by local professionals.
    A weekly “girls group” for those who suffer with low self esteem and issues around self harm and bullying
    An annual schools project where we work with local primary schools to create a new drama piece working in collaboration with professional writers and creatives, culminating in professional performances at our venue.

Tees Valley Music Service (TVMS)

TVMS has served the Tees Valley for over fifty years. Initially a purely peripatetic instrumental tuition service, we have extended our provision to include teacher training, school curriculum support and delivery, consultancy for all aspects of music education, including music technology, and instrument and equipment hire.

Now one of the 122 National Music Education Hub Lead Partners, we are the first port of call for all Tees music needs.

TVMS provides high quality music opportunities for children and young people across our four partner authorities of Stockton-on-Tees, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland.

We believe that every child should have access to a breadth of opportunities regardless of circumstance or background. We offer music tuition, support and events in a broad range of styles and genres.
